An annual Labor Day Weekend event in Bolton Landing, New York, on the shores of Lake George, this is always a fantastic weekend of shows. Besides the shows, it includes a "come-one-come-all" quartet contest thrown in as one of the activities, along with a treasure hunt and a quartet challenge: sing at every store on the main street of town! The shows themselves are legendary, and bring back some of the all-time great quartets, re-united just for the fun they have at this affair. The quartet contest is one song, and includes registered men's, women's, and mixed quartets as well as last minute pickup quartets. The last time a mixed quartet won was a few years ago, when the Mixed Nuts took the top spot.

MHBQA quartet Quadlibet won this year's Bolton Landing quartet contest! A fairly new member of MHBQA, the quartet is comprised of Gaye LaCasce Signor on tenor, Belinda McCarter on lead, Dan Signor on bari, and Duane McCarter on bass. One of the "prizes" for winning the contest is the invitation to perform on the final night show, on the same bill as some of the great quartets of history. MHBQA's Quadlibet got that opportunity this year. About their performance on the Sunday night show, Harmonet reporter Jade Walker writes:

Quadlibet, a mixed quartet made up of two married couples, were the winners of the afternoon's quartet contest... They sang a serene and peaceful version of Lonesome Road and followed it with I'll Fly Away, the song with which they won the contest. They got a standing ovation and were brought back for another song -- No More Sorrows.

Also performing at Bolton Landing, as one of the "big-time" invited quartets, was MHBQA's Kindred Spirits (current Buckeye mixed quartet champions.) They performed on three of the shows. About their performance on the Saturday night show, Jade Walker wrote:

Kindred Spirits entered, with Mike [the MC] ooing their svelte black and yellow outfits. Holly began Sentimental Journey with Brian "dooing" in the background. Jon and Gwen joined in. This song has a nice rocking beat with lush jazz rhythms. The middle section had Holly and Brian with trumpet-like runs through a quick series of words, then they were back to the rocking rhythm, ending in a soft "All aboard." Then I Don't Know Why showed off the beautiful lows in Gwen's voice. She also did the "lonely" speech over a muted trio of imitation instruments. The couples became dance partners as they sang "when we're dancing." No More Sorrows ended their set, showing their roots as a gospel group. Such a nice, clean sound! They've been singing together off and on for about 10 years.

Other quartets performing in the big tent over the weekend: After Hours, Ambiance (SAI Int'l Champs), Gotcha!, The New Tradition (SPEBSQSA Int'l Champs), The Nonpareils (comedy women's quartet), The Perfect Gentlemen, Reveille, Road Show, Rural Route 4 (SPEBSQSA Int'l Champs), Saturday Evening Post, Uptown Sound, and Le DixieBand (a French-Canadian instrumental jazz band.)
