Meet the Members of PRISM

The members of PRISM, all members of the Hilltop, MN Great Northern Union Chorus, possess a variety of musical experiences and talents:

Steve Nolte, the tenor of the group, has sung and performed in many previous ensembles. He was a charter member of the Minnesota Valley Plainsmen. Steve currently sings with the Joyful Noise Praise Band (he does percussion and vocals) for the St John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, MN. The father of two teenagers, Gwen at Sioux Falls, SD State, and Caleb at Belle Plaine High School He works as an IS/IT Analyst at Northwest Airlines, Inc. in Eagan, MN. Steve is engaged to be married to Ms. Kelly Stewart in late fall of 2004. We've talked with her, and talked with her, but she insists that she is in love. Proof that Love is Blind. However, she is PRISM's gain.

The lead singer in PRISM is Cleon Wahlin. Cleon has sung in a couple of previous barbershop quartets, Spirit of Harmony, and What'cha Hear 4. Cleon also previously sang with the St. Croix Chordsmen Chorus. He works as an IS/IT Analyst for Northwest Airlines, Inc. and has two daughters, Leah, an English/French major at St. Cloud State University and Karla, at White Bear Lake High School. Cleon lives with his wife, Cheryl in Golden Valley, MN. Cleon is our professional "conflict avoider" in the quartet, and can be counted on to calm the rest of us down, usually Alan, who invariably has his knickers in a twist, or Steve who is clinically "twitterpated" (read: IN LOVE)

Singing baritone is Alan Matchinsky, who has sung in a variety of barbershop quartets over the years. He sang in Shanty Town Four, Grassroots, American Classics, and The Grand Experiment prior to joining up with Steve, Cleon, and Darren to form PRISM. Besides the Great Northern Union Chorus, he has also sung in the Greater St. Paul Area Northstar Chorus, The Manhattan Beach, CA South Bay Chorus, and the St. Cloud, MN Singing Saints. Alan is music director of the Bloomington, MN Good Times Chorus. He and his wife Karen live in Apple Valley, MN and have four children. Son, Grant lives in Arizona; Tom and his wife Kathryn live in St. Louis Park (Tom is a certified Society Singing Judge, a district quartet champ (Innovation!), and sings in the Great Northern Union); Daughter Katrina lives in Minneapolis, and Katie lives at home, a full time college student. Beside being a Spiritual Director, Alan is an IS/IT Analyst at Northwest Airlines, Inc. The oldest member of the quartet, Alan says he is at an age that while he should know better, he is still young enough to do it again. And besides, can't remember that he's already done that anyway.

Darren Hoehne, bass. Every a cappella group needs a solid bottom and Darren really makes his mark at the bottom (singing part that is). You can't help but to notice that Darren breathes a rarer form of air than the rest of us, and towers above PRISM. He is a food and beverage purchasing manager at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, MN. Darren sang with the Dunne County, WI Northern Lights Chorus while a student at UW - Stout. Darren IS available, and SEARCHING for the girl of his dreams... for a good time, call 952 555-1212.

PRISM brings their passion for singing and telling stories to the stage with a unique genuineness. While they clean up pretty good and can be quite sophisticated in their spiffy tuxedos and new suits under the lights, really they are just four regular guys who love to have fun, love to sing, and love to laugh. When not singing, you can find these guys busy eating and drinking, while enjoying the company of the quartets' families and friends.
