On the beautiful spring morning of Tuesday, May 24, 2005,
the three middle children of the Arneberg
family decided to walk to school, just for the heck of it. I was proud
to accompany them as their father and official photographer (using my
new
FZ20).
The kids debated and plotted out a path that meandered through neighborhoods and commercial areas of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, including crossing the Chippewa River. It made for about four miles of delightful hiking, taking us about 90 minutes including a couple stops. In addition to splitting cinammon rolls at the "Bake and Brew" downtown, I also promised them that if they walked all the way, that I'd buy them ANYTHING THEY WANTED at the McDonald's near their destination, Christ Lutheran School. After scarfing down pancakes, McGriddles, etc., they asked if they could have McFlurries. I assured them that the restaurant doesn't serve thick milk shakes for breakfast, but they promptly proved me wrong and I was forced to live up to my promise. We had a great time! Our only regret is that we waited until the last week of school, otherwise maybe we would've done it more often. Wait 'til next fall! (BTW, I mentioned this walk in one of my columns.) |
David, Alison, and Jasper Arneberg enjoy the fruits of their labor
(open menu at Mac's) after hiking four miles to school today
