September 3-7, 2009, was "Parents' Weekend" at the
U.S. Air Force Academy
near Colorado Springs, Colorado. My wife Beth and I went there to visit our son Benjamin,
who is starting his second year. Joining us were Ben's grandparents, Ron & Bonnie
Arneberg, who drove out from Minnesota, and Dick & Connie Carpenter, Ben's host
family and our long-time friends from when we lived up in the mountains in
Woodland Park.
On Friday we got to go to all Ben's classes (amazingly good profs!) and saw a great "parade," including demonstrations from gliders, parachuters, and fighter jets. Friday night was a reception for the Wisconsin AFA Parents' Association. Saturday we watched Ben pack a parachute as part of the "Wings of Green" team, before taking in the football game. (USAFA won in a nail-biter, 72-0.) The rest of the weekend we relaxed at the Carpenter Compound, including a great day Sunday of church, hiking, and then a reunion of many of our friends from the 1980s. It was a great vacation! Thanks to the Carpenters for their wonderful hospitality. Anyway, here are a some photos I took with my FZ50 camera. - Tom Arneberg (toma@arneberg.com) |
